Pete's Brewing Co. of Palo Alto, brewers of Pete's Wicked Ale, intend to market its beer in Canada, England, Australia, and beyomd - basically everywhere English is spoken. But there are limits to the brewer's export ambitions. "I don't think 'wicked' would play well in Korea," company president Mark Bozzini told the Business Times...From the "We Tried, But We Blew It Department" comes this 1868 founding statement by San Francisco Chronicle establishers Charles and M.H. de Young, which the Chron runs in its Web site: "We propose to publish a bold, bright, fearless, and truly indepedent newspaper, independent in all things, neutral in nothing," the two young publishers declared...There's a thin line between self-reference and self-aggrandizement - a line that the San Francisco Bay Guardian erases every week. The June 28 issue of the city's other weekly contains no less than 21 annoying self-references in its news stories. There appears to be an institutional rule over there that no story can go more than 300 words before the obligatory citation "told the Bay Guardian," or some lesser variant, is inserted. Or at least that's what a researcher "told the SF Weekly."
