School Work Needing Supervision

Rojas explains it this way:
"You've got a bunch of kids who gotta go to school. This is not a popularity contest.

"I don't really give a damn that you are Charlie Walker and you were in 1984 convicted of something. Now everybody's concerned that I didn't use the Blessed Virgin Mary, that I used an unpopular fellow."

As for the folks affected by all this, parents of 30 of the 260 Gloria Davis Middle School children have transferred their kids elsewhere in the district. The remainder are about to go on holiday vacation from their new Evans Street school. Meanwhile politicians and attorneys are scheduled to meet in court Dec. 13 to begin hammering this out. And the school board was set to discuss a policy for handling such emergencies at its Dec. 10 meeting.

Any number of questions can and should be raised about the players and procedures that slipped and slid their way through all this. That aside, what's most important is that 260 students were spared being forced to attend school in an unsafe building. Barely.
