Of course, Bryant hopes to parlay his mayoral and supervisorial appointments into more credibility and more political opportunity.

"I have this big dream of starting a Democratic club called the Generation X Democratic Club," Bryant says. "There are people in San Francisco between the ages of 18 and 29 who don't vote, who don't give a fuck, who don't give a damn at all. The numbers in that area, it could be hella powerful."

With a constituency, Bryant thinks he could cause some interesting trouble. His first opening, he says, will probably be in the year 2000, when district elections return to San Francisco.

"We are sitting in District 10," he says with a big smile on his face. "Hunters Point is District 10. All the way to Double Rock is District 10. This is one of the last black neighborhoods. Learning all this political stuff I am learning, and learning there is a process for doing things, I can see myself helping the right person to become supervisor for District 10."

His plan: "My whole thing is to try and overthrow the status quo the right way, through the process. I look at the Board of Supervisors, and I'm like, 'Who feels [what] the average person, not the average black person, but what the average person in San Francisco feels?' None of them up there; they all got their own agendas."

Even Willie Brown is not spared Bryant's critical attentions.
"You know what it is, and I just came to realize this: He looks for his liaisons in the different communities, the self-appointed leaders. A lot of them are not on the up and up. He sprinkles the money where it is supposed to go, but then they don't do the right thing. So he's been picking the wrong gatekeepers basically."

Clearly, Ollie Bryant thinks he knows who the right gatekeeper is.
