SFW Stage

The strange plot twists and surreal imagery would be more interesting if the dialogue weren't so quotidian. Eyes seems to exist in a landscape of the mind, more than in Mexico itself, and this production does what it can to bring Shepard's surrealism to life. There are subtle jungle noises, a luminous moon, and a lush green backdrop of leaves that fold into iguana's feet. The impressive set, as much as the script's divine pedigree, sets up a cruel, impossible promise. This time it's the playwright himself who seems to have lost his way.
