Haight Street might have been the place to wear flowers in your hair, but mods knew that the hippest place on 1960s Earth was Swinging London and its youthquaker epicenter, Carnaby Street. The music and fashion union sounded like the Who, the Yardbirds, and the whine of scooter engines, and looked like the bold graphic prints and velvety, furry textures vividly captured in Michelangelo Antonioni's landmark film Blowup (and later, parodied by Mike Myers as the foppish Austin Powers). Liftoff! SpaceCapades revives the go-go beat this weekend with "The Carnaby Street Cave Stomp!," a dance party that, in the spirit of decadence, lasts for two days and stars Miss Go-Go Boots herself, Nancy Sinatra.

The stomp begins at 6 p.m. Friday at Tower Records, where the Deluxe's "Leisure Lounge" DJs spin "sex-a-delic" cocktail soundtracks from the '60s, and groovy gals show off their hip togs and dance moves in a Go-Go Girl Contest; Sinatra will be signing autographs (Market & Noe, S.F. Later that evening, the party travels to North Beach, where DJs spin mad mod at "Bardot a Go-Go"; listen for Sinatra, Petula Clark, French artist Jacques Dutronc, and English rarities from former Mod Lang DJ Alex Palao. On Saturday, "Bardot a Go-Go" returns with liquid lights, rare go-go video footage, and hits from the Sinatra catalog: originals like "These Boots Were Made for Walking," duets with dad Frank ("Somethin' Stupid") and Lee Hazlewood ("Jackson"), and covers of the Beatles and the Stones. They're the first attraction on a bill that continues with Herb Alpert cover band Herb and a live set from Sinatra, whose famous white go-go boots have been pounding the comeback trail ever since she sat in on a Ventures gig last fall.
