We're Honored

SF Weekly and two of its writers have received top honors in the prestigious Maggie Awards, an annual competition among magazines published west of the Mississippi. SF Weekly's three first-place awards were announced in Los Angeles at the April 23 banquet of the Western Publishing Association, which runs the awards program.

SF Weekly was named the best overall consumer tabloid newspaper.
Staff writer Lisa Davis won first place in the consumer news category for her story "The Fairfield Wives," chronicling the dubious medical practices of a Fairfield physician who lost his medical license following allegations of sexual improprieties with his patients.

Staff writer Peter Byrne won first place for a series of stories for "Rewarding Failure," a two-part examination of how cushy union contracts, poor planning, and financial mistakes have brought Muni to its current, woeful state.
