I too am Gujarati, and find this bias extremely closed-minded. Bella and her brother did not learn to deal with living in Western society as teenagers. Instead, they chose to reject it and stay at home. Let me just say for the record that this is not normal behavior, and that it is no wonder that they are both having trouble dating non-Indians.

Arranged marriage is done more out of duty to get married than anything else. Western marriages are done out of passion. While neither one is perfect, Indian couples stay together longer because of that duty to each other, their children, and their parents. It's too bad that Mr. Engardio couldn't get to a real understanding of arranged marriage, and instead chose to propagate more Indian stereotypes.

No Danger to Will Robinson
Speaking not as a high-tech industry analyst, but as an everyday reader and occasional CNET TV viewer (Saturday mornings, Sci-Fi Channel, over Cheerios), I thought that Jack Boulware's piece on CNET's TV business was the funniest piece of editorial journalism I have ever taken the time to read ("Boob Tube," Bay View, June 2).

The shows are in a no-win situation: They're campy and silly to the non-tech-savvy population, and campy, silly, condescending, and boring (absent Formica's cheesecake factor) to the tech-savvy viewer (who is probably watching the Sci-Fi Channel). Maybe they'll be looked back on as the early pioneers of tech-savvy TV, much as the Sci-Fi Channel's other staple (Lost in Space reruns) are looked on as vintage classics by Star Trek: Voyager fans.

Well done -- a hysterical read. Keep up the good work.
