Best Reason to Go to Fisherman's Wharf

Eagle Cafe

For years the Eagle served breakfast and bourbon to the deckhands and crabbers of Fisherman's Wharf, back when it was a real wharf with a real fishing fleet minus all of the gimcrack and wax museums. When the Pier 39 development came along and threatened the Eagle's nest at the foot of Powell Street, the whole structure was hoisted up, transported a block or two, and set down, lock, stock, and liquor license, atop the new amusement pier. And with all of that moving and shaking it hasn't changed a bit, serving up cheap drinks and hearty meals out of a Prohibition-era atmosphere. The room is decorated in early sea dog, with ship's bells, clipper ship artwork, and battleship paraphernalia aplenty, as well as several perched eagles. Plus there is Anchor Steam on tap, three meals every day (breakfast is still the best), and a nice view of the bay out the front windows. Best of all, the bar opens at 7:30 in the morning. The old wharf lives!
