Let's face it, at most gyms your 45 minutes on the elliptical trainer will be spent gazing at a CNN telecast, or more likely, just zoning out to the minutes displayed on the machine until your workout is over. But there's a better way: Imagine passing the time doing cardio while watching the original Star Warson a 13-by-18-foot movie screen? Housed in the old Alhambra Theater (San Francisco landmark No. 217), Gorilla Sports has done an amazing job of keeping the original architecture intact. The theater's lush ornamentation and Spanish-Moorish theme are preserved inside and out. Those who mourned the loss of the movie house when it closed in 1998 can now revel in nostalgia and shed the excess pounds to boot. We especially like "Indie Film Night" (the first Sunday of every month), which features the works of local filmmakers -- solicited from Craigslist -- and is open to the public for viewing.
