Hidden away up a staircase, across the hall from the legendary Crown Point Press, Califia is a bookstore and gallery in one. The unique works here are usually identifiable as books, but most break the mold in some way. There are tiny, exquisite, letterpress-printed volumes; glamorous large-format pieces printed with photographs; and every kind of funky binding and cover you can imagine. An added bonus: Unlike at most museum shows, at Califia you can slip on a pair of white cotton gloves and handle the art. Prices range from $25 to $500.
