Best Place to Buy Eclectic Gifts

Market Between Sanchez and Castro

We used to say we'd like to open a shop called Weird Random Shit and fill it with cool stuff we like. We'd display everything handsomely, and occasionally we'd even sell some of it. Now we don't have to, because a two-block stretch of Market Street has blossomed with three WRS shops, all of them gorgeous, eclectic, and different from one another. The Barking Frog has only been open since November, and though it specializes in detailed wooden furniture imported from Indonesia, it also sells scented candles, hand-carved boxes, and all manner of quirky items. Earthtones is a yummy shop that's great for one-of-a-kind gifts for folks who have everything; here you'll find leather jewelry boxes, elegant barware, Asian-influenced pottery, and a panoply of objets large and small. Many Moons continues the WRS theme, also selling imported goodies from Asia, Europe, and India, and featuring everything from Mission-style lamps to wrought-iron candelabras. And if you don't find anything at any of these stores, you can always cross the street at Castro and give in to the uniformity of Pottery Barn.
