Tucked inside a SOMA warehouse across from the Mission Bay Golf Center's driving range and surrounded by construction lies a great place to find sports equipment, whether you're a novice recreational hiker or a serious triathlete. The 40,000-square-foot Sports Basement is packed with clothing and gear for every part of you, from the bottoms of your feet to the top of your head, in brand names from Adidas to Zoot. Whatever your activity -- swimming, hiking, biking, snowboarding, soccer, walking on a treadmill -- you'll find what you need at a reasonable price (be sure to hit the sales, too). The friendly staff can outfit you for any adventure: They've got wet suits, running shoes, backpacks, T-balls, shorts, bike helmets, snow pants, walking sticks, nose plugs, and sunscreen. The store also hosts regular lectures and seminars on sports-related topics such as cycling biomechanics, nutrition, and stretching. And, like the great outdoors, the Sports Basement is open every day of the week.
