Say you're a burlesque artist with more feathery costumes than cash, yet you want to make it down to L.A. for October's big skin-show convention. How do you fund your trip? A bake sale? Carwash? Sponsor-a-Hotsy-Totsy Telethon? Nope. You make your small fortune doing what it is you do best: performing an adorably flirty dance for a paying audience. And that's just what the pulchritudinous ladies of "Tease-O-Rama or BUST" have planned, with sassy gambols from every troupe in town.

Two performances feature appearances by venerable go-go outfit the Devil-Ettes, synchronized samba-ing showgirls Hot Pink Feathers, and cabaret cuties the Cantankerous Lollies, as well as bump-and-grind from Harlem Shake, S.F.'s first women-of-color outfit, and live music from San Francisco's Famous Burlesque Orchestra. Fans of diverse female flesh might also note the inclusion of the goth-ish Black & Blue Burlesque clan, the callipygian dames of the Original Fat-Bottom Revue, and a said-to-be-smoking-hot Mae West number from Miss Eva von Slut. Care to dance along? The late show is followed by a participatory after-party. The naughtiness begins at 7:30 p.m. (and again at 10:30) at Broadway Studios, 435 Broadway, S.F. Admission is $10-15; call 291-0333 or visit www.broadwaystudios.com.

Dangerous Ink
Skin art with a message

DAILY 9/17-10/31

By now most people are used to seeing anchors, shapely ladies, or tribal designs etched into skin. But a swastika, a racial slur, or a Rebel flag? Not so kosher, most would say, yet these designs are arresting -- and controversial -- enough to serve as the subject of Berkeley's "Politically Incorrect Tattoos" exhibit. Of course, some may feel discomfited by images of racist African-American, Asian, and Native American designs or gory portraits of severed heads. But the exhibit attempts to provide more than just shock; extensive text accompanying each photo explains the tat's origin and meaning, placing it in a context that suddenly makes sense of an otherwise abhorrent simulacrum. The show remains up until Oct. 31 at the Tattoo Archive, 2804 San Pablo (at Greyson), Berkeley. Admission is free; call (510) 548-5895 or visit www.tattooarchive.com.

Super Fly
A kick-ass fashion show

FRI 9/19

Let's face it, kids. San Francisco's ailing fashion scene needs a shot in its pale pink pashmina. (See, even our reference to women's wear is dated.) A Motion Studio, however, will cure you of your haute-couture withdrawals with "Super Casualfragilistic": two live fashion shows featuring local designers, DJs Melvin J and Tru, plus food and wine on which to satiate yourself (while, of course, watching those calories). Fifth Avenue can keep its wispy, alcohol-soaked Hilton twins; SOMA will have martial artists White Crane Silat wearing the latest designs while kicking ass. "Super" starts at 5 p.m. (fashion shows at 8 and 10) at A Motion Studio, 440 Brannan (at Third Street), S.F. Admission is $5; call 957-1411 or visit www.amotionstudio.com.

Social Skills

SAT 9/20

Wine, women, and song? How about ice cream, women, and song -- all of which will appear at the "Sexy Ice Cream Social." It features performers like Cherry Terror and sweet activities like Jell-O wrestling. This benefit for the Femina Potens gallery starts at 8 p.m. at Cell Space, 2050 Bryant (at 18th Street), S.F. Admission is $20; call 861-2240.
