Want a cheap shot at a free turkey? You won't see any live birds at the Turkey Shoot and Canned Food Drive, but you can make some bad fowl jokes while doing some good (the canned food you bring goes to the S.F. Food Bank) – and maybe win some prime poultry. Or you could just drink your turkey this year, as Thee Parkside's offering Wild Turkey specials (shots, anyone?). Live music accompanies the festive turkey-disparaging: The musical bill includes Phil Claypool, the Plain High Drifters, and the Sleaves. That's a mighty fine altcountry lineup, sure to intimidate any gobbler on the premises. Speaking of which, organizers won't be specific about the exact nature of the so-called Turkey Shoot, but apparently there's a test of skill (we've been assured rifles won't be involved, nor live turkeys). Ain't Love Funny?

Every film genre has its conventions (what would a horror movie be without a fleeing heroine who trips in high heels?), and the romantic comedy is no exception. Modern "rom-coms" have established a new canon – how many pictures have youseen with a falling-in-love montage set to a classic rock tune? – but most of the clichés were set in stone in the 1930s, with old-school flicks like It Happened One Night and Bringing Up Baby. BATS Improv delivers an impromptu sendup of these venerable burlesques with Romantic Comedy, in which the audience supplies setups and the actors do the rest. People who like "serious" musicians, or at least musicians who take themselves seriously (Joe Satriani fans, this means you), might not appreciate the Red Elvises. Theirs is beer-guzzling music. NOFX lovers, however, may find a cross-genre appeal in the band's enduring goofiness. The quartet is anchored by Siberian immigrants Igor Yuzov and Oleg Bernov, who, upon reaching Los Angeles, found Elvis the way some people find Jesus. Since then, the two (and their bandmates) have made a career out of a good-natured inability to act their age. Hits include "I Want to See You Bellydance" and "Sad Cowboy Song," and most of the tunes feature Bernov on the balalaika, a huge triangular bass – guess what color.
