"That's when I realized that the museum is really not a bad metaphor," Hoke says. "It's a way of organizing all the ideas, thoughts, and experiences I've had in my life. I may have named the rooms [after alchemical stages], but I can put anything I want in them.

"And anyone can build their own museum. A photograph hanging on a wall can become an artifact. Artifacts, like anything else, take on significance when you give them significance."
