Cunning linguist Radioactive drops by "Tru Skool"; Philly's King Britt heats up Club Six; and Mark Farina and Derrick Carter double-team the decks at Mezzanine.

This week's edition of the popular hip hop night "True Skool" (which takes place on the second and fourth Fridays of each month at Milk) brings a special guest with a considerable instrument: his voice. Radioactive is known for his work with Spearhead but is also an instant jump-start to any local party thanks to his considerable pipes, which can flip chameleonlike among beat-boxing, singing, and rapping. Radioactive joins "True Skool" resident DJs Coop D'Ville, Jah Yzer, and Ren the Vinyl Archaeologist on Friday, Feb. 13, from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. at 1840 Haight (at Stanyan), S.F. Philadelphia's always-smooth King Britt joins local collective Massive Selector to celebrate his adventurous new electronic soul label Five Six Recordings and its Black to the Futurecompilation with a three-hour DJ set. Musically, the only thing Britt might discriminate against is a bad song. Everything else -- be it house, jazz, hip hop, or funk -- is fair game. Guest vocalists Capitol A and Marque's Raw Soul open, with DJ Rueben and the Massive Selector resident DJs supporting on Friday, Feb. 13, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. at Club Six, 60 Sixth St. (at Jessie), S.F. Many DJs record mix CDs in controlled environments where there's time for editing and re-editing, some going as far as to masquerade studio sessions as mixes recorded live at some exotic club somewhere. Longtime friends Mark Farina and Derrick Carter (the former a local favorite, the latter a frequent visitor from Chicago) will throw that caution to the wind as they record their dual live set on Friday for a double CD to be released in June. Carter popularized the term "boompty-boomp" to describe his ridiculously infectious tunes, and Farina is equally keyed in to a good groove, so expect this house tag-team to provide more bounce for the ounce than a Richard Simmons workout tape. They join opener Rithma on Friday, Feb. 13, from 10 p.m. till the wee hours at Mezzanine, 444 Jessie (at Mint), S.F.
