Best Quiz Night

Edinburgh Castle

Having honed his skills in theater and stand-up comedy years ago while living in New York City, Carl Gibbs, host of the Edinburgh Castle's "Quiz Night," reveals that one of the reasons the Tuesday trivia event proves so popular is that it's "the only chance to use your liberal arts education." How true. Gibbs is an outstanding MC. Each week he comes up with 70 shiny new brain-teasers to hurl at his loyal, unusually bright triviaphiles. From nail-biting rounds like "general knowledge" to show-off opportunities such as "specialties" (The Simpsons, the Oscars, unusual phobias), the tests leave the winning team proud and the losing teams wallowing in their empty pints of ale. To be fair, Gibbs does produce at least seven questions per round that the majority of the audience, he believes, will know (the remaining three are for the savants). The victor receives $50, second place gets free drink tickets, and third place gets $10 -- which, as Gibbs cornballs each week, "goes a long way in the Tenderloin."
