Hubba-Hubba!

A "Room" with a great view

ONGOING

New York's finest are coming for a visit. We're not talking about the boys in blue, though -- we're talking about a pair, and they usually wear pink. The boobs in question belong to the World Famous *BOB*, a burlesque queen recently deemed to have the Big Apple's "Best Tits." This bombshell's 47 1/2 F-34-45 measurements are impressive, but her magnificent mammaries aren't popular just 'cause they're pretty. In her signature number, "Martini Time," the sweet-faced blonde shakes and pours a cocktail in a look-Ma-no-hands routine -- and one lucky audience member gets to drink the results. The whole crowd's bound to feel warmer.

The World Famous *BOB* is just one of the acts at the "Va Va Voom Room," a collection of talented performers who crisscross the country at the beckoning of impresario Kate Valentine, fearless leader of the only troupe to operate simultaneous weekly shows in S.F. and N.Y.C. The "VVVR" also features singers, dancers, magicians, and a three-piece live band. This weekend's show is MCed by the eye-patch-wearing, ennui-exuding Miss Astrid, whose wicked wit balances out the eye candy. Catch the show Fridays and Saturdays at 8 and 11 p.m. at the Plush Room in the York Hotel, 940 Sutter (at Hyde), S.F. Admission is $20-25; call 885-2800 or visit www.vavavoomroom.com.

Losing It
What defines queer chastity?

SAT 8/7

I know a foxy lesbian who's gotten it on with many willing ladies but has never even kissed a man. Her dyke friends call her a "thoroughbred" -- is she also a virgin? Most people can agree that the term applies to a person who has not yet had sex, but as Bill Clinton's obfuscations proved, the definition of "sex" is a bit more problematic. Things get even fuzzier for those with a penchant for their own gender. Is my lesbian friend pure as the driven snow if she's never shagged a fella? Can one make merry at Blow Buddies parties every week without losing one's virtue? Local smut-friendly writers debate the issue at "Cherry: Queering Virginity, First Encounters of the Queer Kind," a night of spoken-word and theatrical performances that pick apart prejudices, confront assumptions, and might just make you itch to relive your own deflowering, starting at 8 p.m. at the Jon Sims Center for the Arts, 1519 Mission (at 11th Street), S.F. Admission is $12-20; call 554-0402.

Somebody's Heroes
Still Stiff after all these years

FRI 8/6

Stiff Little Fingers got tagged "the Irish Clash" early on thanks to the two groups' mutual love of reggae and the Joe Strummer-ish political themes of SLF lead singer/guitarist Jake Burns' songs. Alas, the Fingers never reached the Clash's heights. The group recorded a couple of early influential albums before splitting up in 1983, only to catch the reunion bug five years later. Burns stands as the sole original member still with the band, but like its British contemporaries the Buzzcocks, Stiff Little Fingers continues to produce solid new material. Resurrect your love of these punk pioneers at 9 p.m. at Slim's, 333 11th St. (at Folsom), S.F. Admission is $20; call 255-0333 or visit www.slims-sf.com.

Boys on Film

ONGOING 8/4-21

Eric Stein's a throwback: He uses a film camera. But that doesn't mean he's stodgy. His alter ego, "Shutterslut," has a charming show called "Drunken Queers You Might Know." Since Stein's been the de facto documentarian of the gay club scene for years now, the exhibit's name probably isn't an exaggeration. See for yourself at Glama-Rama!, 417 South Van Ness (at 15th Street), S.F. Admission is free; call 861-4526 or visit www.glamarama.com.
