The electric guitars and jittery drums of the first few bars on Radios Burn Faster make you wonder what direction the album will take. It could very well be that cutesy emo-punk hybrid the kids have been so fond of lately. But about 18 seconds into the record, something changes: An extra-fuzzy distorted guitar proudly alternates between two notes over a very straightforward punk rock rhythm section. It's nothing groundbreaking, but it sounds honest and emotional, emotional like where emo got its name from, before all the diluting. What follows are 11 songs that draw equally from the old school (most notably Fugazi), middle school (early Sunny Day Real Estate), and new school (Trail of Dead), without any frills or fancy production, just good, upbeat rocking and angry vocals. And that's all anyone can really ask for.
