This debut by Ada, aka Michaela Dippel, a singer and producer out of Germany, is an alternately sweet and savory buffet of techy, housy, glitchy, mousey goodness. It opens with the slippery flanged synths of "Eve," ebbing and flowing as a skipping house beat gets things moving; "close your eyes and wet your lips," tweets an effects-laden, chipmunk-ish voice, then a burbling bass line kisses those lips, grabs your hand, and carries you up and away into an amber-hued cloud city of warm synths and more vocals before bursts of crisp, prickly keys rain down and things get playfully dark. That's just one song. Multiply those moods times 10 tracks and you can imagine the fun of this record, which slides and glides through electronic worlds with the grace of a ballerina and the flair of a break dancer. The kicker is Dippel's cover of Yeah Yeah Yeahs' "Maps," which she renders as an atmospheric, shoegazing house tune, stretching Karen O's lyrics like taffy over chiming bells and a 4/4 kick: "Wait/ they don't love you like I love you." Ada, the feeling is mutual.
