Since emerging from Slovenia in 1980 as jackbooted industrialists trucking in crypto-fascist imagery, Laibach has consistently pushed people's buttons worldwide. There's something undeniably transgressive about guys in neo-Nazi uniforms barking slogans in their nonnative German, but this is belied by a darkly tongue-in-cheek sense of humor, e.g., applying the group's poker-faced Teutonic aesthetic to covering the entire Beatles Let It Be album. So here's the requisite double-CD anthology, Anthems: Disc one is a greatest-hits collection of Laibach's covers and anthemic works; disc two is 14 serviceable electro-ish remixes. It's a solid overview of the band's career, and probably all the Laibach a neophyte would need. But music is only part of the picture: For the full-on Laibachian blitzkrieg of bluster and bombast, seek out the group's videos, or take advantage of the rare live spectacle.
