Surely every city dweller has a favorite piece of illegal public artwork. My husband and I, for example, treasure the legacy of one spray-paint bandit who daubed a crime scene like outline of a leprechaun-sized body at Market and Laguna. In fact, local taggers tirelessly create witty, gorgeous works on paths and buildings all over town. Appreciator of the absurd Brandon Baunach leads cyclists on a search-and-enjoy mission at the "Best SF Graffiti Bike Tour," which starts at 10 a.m. at the Dolores Park Tennis Courts, Dolores & 18th streets, S.F. The ride is free; visit www.sfbike.org.

Watch a game, help injured kids

SAT 1/15

So you can't make it to the Pro Bowl -- at least San Francisco's East West Shrine Game doesn't require airfare to Honolulu. In its 80 years the post-season collegiate all-star football game has earned its own bragging rights with a long history of distinguished players, including John Elway and former President Gerald Ford. East West is also a profitable fund-raising event for the nationwide Shriners Hospitals for Children, which provide free orthopedic, burn, and spinal cord care to kids.

This year's match pits Oregon State coach Mike Riley's West Coast crew against Purdue University's Joe Tiller-led East Coast squad, with standout athletes on both teams. Sure, it's a philanthropic venture, but that doesn't make the rivalry any less intense and sweaty. Stand up and cheer at the 11 a.m. kickoff at SBC Park, 24 Willie Mays Plaza, Third & King streets, S.F. Tickets are $25-50; call (650) 372-9300 or visit www.shrinegame.com.

What a Catch

WED-SUN 1/12-16The allure of sitting somewhere very cold and waiting to nab a tasty water creature is mighty: So strong, in fact, that it has its own party, the Fred Hall's Fishing, Tackle & Boat Show. One of the West Coast's most popular marine expos, this fishing fete offers seminars about everything from hooking wild Chinook salmon to multiday casting in Mexico to making your own sushi. Beginning trawlers can get free instruction, while more accomplished (and more affluent) anglers can check out the latest in equipment and boats, and families can enjoy live entertainment that includes the Berkley Kids Fish Free Trout Pond, ESPN's DockDogs competition, and the Sporting Chef. Cast out at noon on Wednesday (the show runs through Sunday) at the Cow Palace, Geneva & Santos, S.F. Admission is free-$10; call 404-4111 or visit www.fredhall.com.
