Do the Bambi

If Euro-chic is your thing, Do the Bambi is your record. "Babystritch," for example, is imbued with the chilled, cosmopolitan marble of a train station, its bits of frosty German speech coming at you like announcements over a staticky intercom, while its discothèque-ready falsetto wails roll along to a thudding, chug-chug bass. "Europa Neurotisch," on the other hand, represents the endearingly kitschy element found in classic Europop, crossing B-grade monster movie theatrics with a Burt Bacharach groove. Things get self-consciously cooler with a cover of "Chelsea Girls" on which vocalist/guitarist/drummer Françoise Cactus sounds even more fabulously vacant, bleak, and Continental than Nico herself. And I don't know exactly what the title track means when it tells me to "Do the Bambi," but when I hear Cactus' enticingly bored vocals combined with this bizarre sample that sounds like someone shaking up a can of spray paint, I want to do it anyway.
