Tuesdays at the Bitter End

441 Clement (at Fifth Avenue), 221-9538, www.tomstrivia.com

If you know where the Beatles performed their last concert and who played Rowdy Yates in Rawhide and how many times Willie Mays hit one out of the park and why Warren G. Harding didn't enjoy his visit to San Francisco, you'll make out like a bandit at the Bitter End's exuberant Tuesday night extravaganzas of film facts, sports stats, musical minutiae, and other informational inconsequentia. Teams of players compete for the glory of conquest (as well as a round of shots from the bar) in four stages of questions ranging in topic from geography and anatomy to current events and pop culture. At some point in the festivities, as an especially saucy change of pace, participants are given the first two lines of a limerick and a few minutes to compose the rest of it. A pubwide sing-along is held at evening's midpoint ("Hit Me With Your Best Shot" is a chronic favorite), with raffle prizes and food and drink maintaining the merriment level. The revelry begins at 9 p.m., but early arrival is recommended.
