The Thin ManWilliam Powell and Myrna Loy star as Nick and Nora Charles, a retired San Francisco private eye and his wealthy new wife, trading drinks and quips on a Yuletide vacation to New York. In the best scene, the Christmas cocktail party, there's a little out-of-tune caroling here, some drunken blubbering there, a lot of martinis and badinage everywhere, with director Woody Van Dyke's facile camera ducking in and out and recording every mistletoed nuance. The next morning, the hung-over Nick happily shoots the ornaments off the Christmas tree with his new air rifle, a gift from his beautiful, all-knowing Nora. Now that's a merry Christmas. ($19)
