This band should be called We Are the Bravest of Interpol's Hot Hot Killers. Or maybe We Are Not Very Good Lyricists. But more than likely it'll be called MTV2's Best New Artist or Blender's Band of the Year or some other honor it doesn't deserve, because these days people don't really care how shallow the lyrics or derivative the songs as long as there's a beat you can dance to after a half-dozen vodka 'n' Red Bulls. We Are Scientists' debut is full of three-minute quickies about late-night drunken hookups and whatever else happens to attractive Brooklyn boys with record deal advances when they go out on a Saturday. You might as well learn the words to the lead single, "Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt" (thought-provoking as they are: "If you want to use my body/ Go for it, yeah"), since they're all you'll be hearing on the radio this year. If you want to ignore the mindlessness and embrace this obnoxiously catchy neo-new wave, go for it. Uh, yeah.
