The Blow and the Bootie

For the past three years running, "Bootie" the monthly party has had the best flyers in town — hilarious composites of wildly different pop stars (like Rick James and Duran Duran's John Taylor), a visual that smartly displays its sonic aesthetic of the unlikely bootleg creations called mash-ups. Among other Bootie fans, expect the Porn Clown Posse, S.F.'s infamous troupe of perverted clowns, to be in attendance in swashbuckling finery to celebrate the club's themed anniversary party on Friday, August 11, at DNA Lounge at 9 p.m. Admission is $10 (if dressed in "pirate wear or skull and crossbones") or $15 for the costumeless; call 626-1409 or go to www.dnalounge.com for more info. One popular phrase in local hip-hop slang is to "go dumb," meaning to let loose and wild. There are plenty of opportunities, then, to go dumb at the "Three Kinds of Stupid Summer Dance Party," where DJs BAS, Caldridge, and Brother Grimm (aka SF Weekly contributor Dan Strachota) will kick out the jams that make crowds lose their intellectual proclivities, no matter the genre. S.F.'s Hey Willpower brings its electro-pop treats as the idiocy gets underway on Saturday, August 12, at Rickshaw Stop at 9 p.m. Admission is $8; call 861-2011 or go to www.rickshawstop.com for more info. — T.P.

The monthly party "Diskotronik" features veteran local DJs TK Disko and ML Tronik; both are skilled mixers who spin from deep crates of funkiness. This month, they welcome Italy's Maurizio Dami — the producer best known as Alexander Robotnick, whose simmering early-'80s proto-house cut "Problèmes D'Amour" is still an important staple in sets with its oft-copied bleepy bassline and whispery French vocals. A very rare appearance from Robotnick, one of dance music's slept-on heroes, takes place on Saturday, August 12, at Rx Gallery at 9 p.m. Admission is $8-10; call 474-7973 or visit www.blasthaus.com for more info. — T.P.
