Dan the Automator's video addictions

S.F. has a virtuosic hip-hop superproducer in Dan The Automator, a position he's recently solidified, strangely enough, through the soundtrack for NBA videogame 2K7. Rather than licensed tracks, it's an original album that finds a perfect beat for the divergent styles of top MCs. Two of his album guests, A.G. (from New York crew D.I.T.C.) and Casual (of Oakland's Hieroglyphics), along with Chali 2na (the great deep voice from Los Angeles' Jurassic 5) join Automator and a live band to riff off of the recorded experience on Thursday, Nov. 30, at Mezzanine at 9 p.m. Admission is $15 adv.; call 625-8880 or visit www.mezzaninesf.com for more info. Sunshine Jones was best known as half of local tribal house outfit Dubtribe (with partner Moonbeam). The pair have placed the group in hibernation/retirement as they raise a family, but Jones now hosts a couple shows "almost every" Sunday night on www.90hz.org. "Sunday Soul" (10 p.m. to midnight) melds laid-back tunes with interview sessions perfect for this philosopher/poet, followed by the after-hours dance mix of "Late Night Discothéque" [sic]. Jones takes to the decks live at "Remedy" with house jock Julius Papp on Friday, Dec. 1, at DNA Lounge at 10 p.m. Admission is $10-20; call 626-1409 or visit www.dnalounge.com for more info. — T.P.

Typically, you could find Bill Picture's oeuvre on this side of the scene, writing about the crack-sy, glorious, and jarring nightlife goings-on in San Francisco. That is, until he switched teams. Instead of covering the clubs — what, did we get too drug-addled and depressing for you, Bill? I guess that would be my fault — he's stepping over to the other side by producing a shiny new and promising night. Along with partner George (DJ Dirty Knees), he's helping to christen Polk Street's Space Gallery with "TransAm" — a monthly queer rock 'n' roll disco, infused with cock rock, synth-trash, indie, punk, and other hard sounds. The night kicks off with a bitchen-ass lineup featuring performances by Kiddie and Fauxnique doing their sought-after modern drag, rock outfit Origami, and DJ Dirty Knees. Hit it this Saturday, Dec. 2 (and every first Saturday of the month), at Space Gallery at 9 p.m. Admission is $5; call 377-3325 or visit www.myspace.com/transamtheclub for more info. Brock Keeling
