Oh, Christi

In the late 1990s, Terrence McNally's Corpus Christi opened in New York City. Because it is a play in which Jesus is portrayed as a gay man (and crucified for it), Catholic groups threatened to bomb the theater. This was back during the height of the WWJD movement, though, and aren't we glad that Christians are so kind, tolerant, and antimaterialistic now? Ha ha ha! But seriously, the current production comes to the Bay Area from Los Angeles, where no assholes tried to kill the actors or audiences. No assholes even picketed the theater. Let's branch waaaaay out and imagine that here, too, we can watch a play about the divinity inherent in all humans in peace.
