Jimmy Edgar wants to be your STD

Jimmy Edgar's music is a fly combination of the genre styles he was raised hearing — from '80s soul to the techno his fellow Detroiters invented. But it's his raw humor that adds an edge to the blend: "I Wanna Be Your STD," for example, brilliantly skewers R&B's oversexed nature with absurdly nasty talk over stuttering beats. Edgar appears on a bill with one of his chief influences, SoCal electro pioneer Egyptian Lover, at "Club Loaded" on Friday, May 4, at Rickshaw Stop at 10 p.m. Admission is $10; call 861-2011 or visit www.rickshawstop.com for more info. Jefrodesiac (Blow Up), Vin Sol (Superfriends), and Richie Panic (Frisco Disco) are three San Francisco DJs with appreciable followings. Together these tastemakers wield the power of their extensive record collections at a new monthly called " Heat Stroke." Whether spinning new wave, no wave, or the next wave in hip hop, revelers can expect a harmonic convergence of synthesizer grooves and a satisfying dose of hipster-watching here. The first "Heat Stroke" takes place on Friday, May 4 (and continues on the first Fridays of the month thereafter), at Milk at 10 p.m. Admission is $10; call 387-6455 or visit www.milksf.com for more info. — T.P.
