Chuck Love in the house: one smooth operator

As if it weren't apparent from his moniker, Chuck Love reveals himself as something of a smooth dude when he sings. The Minneapolis-based artist, who is also a DJ and producer, has found a natural fit with San Francisco's Om Records, home to his double-disc debut Bring Enough to Spill Some. Love isn't just a bedroom house producer; he plays several instruments (including keys, bass, guitar, flute, and trumpet), which gives him a much fuller and realer sound than many of his computer-twiddling cronies. Love's labelmate Colette, a DJ/singer/producer from Chicago, joins him in DJing at "Remedy" on Friday, June 29, at DNA Lounge at 10 p.m. Admission is $10-20; call 626-1409 or visit www.dnalounge.com for more info.

London's Swayzak (David "Brun" Brown and James Taylor) is one of Britain's most notable minimal techno acts. This is despite the fact that the label can be a bit of a misnomer given the duo's obvious enthusiasm for (and occasional incorporation of) musical forms ranging from dub to vocal house. Brown and frequent Swayzak collaborator/DJ Roger 23 will present material (including cuts from upcoming Swayzak album Some Other Country) as "Swayzak Soundsystem"with techno DJ Kate Simko at "Cargo" on Friday, June 29, at Supperclub at 10 p.m. Admission is $12-20; call 348-0900 or visit www.blasthaus.com for more info.
