Billing itself as the longest-running drag show in the Castro, The Monster Show may also be thought of as the drag show at the center of the gay universe, because if 18th and Castro isn't that address, what is? Hostess Cookie Dough is a born-and-bred San Franciscan, too, so there's something very genuine about the whole event. Realer than real, one might say. Some of the city's finest performers appear onstage to lip-synch, show off elaborate costumes, and, on occasion, actually sing. This evening's theme is Disco Heat, so expect afros and tight bell-bottom jumpsuits. DJ MC2 mixes the all-important beats for queens and subjects alike -- we're calling for Donna Summer and a 60 percent chance of Bee Gees. All are welcome who appreciate gratuitous blue eyeshadow and Star Wars-theme dance remixes.
