Mormons are so much fun. For some reason, California attracts a lot of young ex-Mormons and other "no-Mos," and as a result, we hear some pretty excellent stories. Our favorite is anything having to do with "the underwear." Mormons, according to our eager-to-blaspheme no-Mo friends, wear a blessed undergarment at all times, even in the shower. Tee hee, right? But religion is no laughing matter in Facing East, a new play by Carol Lynn Pearson performed by Plan B, a Salt Lake City theater group. The plot follows a married couple grieving the suicide of their gay son; they soon have their first meeting with his partner. So it's not a comedy. But these Utahns bring a message of tolerance that's getting snappy reviews, so sit down and save the jokes for after the show.
