Madness at the Star

Ah, the 4 Star. A smart-mouthed friend once strolled by the great old movie theater and remarked that the owners must be pissed now that the world has more or less changed over to a five-star rating system. But the people who run the place just seem busy, showing cheap first-run films and hosting hard-to-find specialty stuff from around the world. Thursday Night Asian Movie Madness is one such treat: As part of the ongoing series of subtitled double features, tonight's screenings are Contour, a locally made low-budget action comedy by S.F. production company the Stunt People, and Jackie Chan favorite Supercop. So this week's show rules, yes, but next week is completely off the charts: "Scrap Heaven Collection of ´70s Trailers and Last (Final Fight Scene) Reels of Martial Art Films." Need we say more? Get out to the avenues, pronto.

Meet the Stunt People and the cast and crew of Contour at 8 p.m.
Aug. 30-Sept. 6
