Weather or Not

Several of the artists contributing to the art exhibit "Strange Weather" work outside their usual area: painter David Maxim is best-known for abstracts, but here contributes a series of realist portraits of mountains. Joan Perlman usually documents her obsession with the bizarre geography of Iceland in paintings and drawings, but here she shows a video installation, From Ice, about the cold country's glacial rivers. Simon Reilly is another painter-turned-videographer, and he "premieres" a piece called Vesuvius #2. Not everything has changed, though: Local favorite Liz Hickok is still making landscape models out of uplit gelatin blocks, aka cities made of glowing Jell-O.
