Do It in the Road

Linoleum block prints are both simple and mysterious. As relatives of the classroom messes we made with potatoes and finger paint, the form is easy to understand: press ink onto paper, get mirror image with cool texture. But like a lot of things, if you toss a load of talent at it, it gets interesting and complicated and better. At Roadworks: Steamroller Prints, a number of artists (including Paul Madonna and William T. Wiley) drop their work in the street so it can get run over by two tons of industrial vehicle. This is more interesting than using a printing press. The event is also a street fair, involving kids' activities, food, and art to buy. You cannot drive the steamroller.
