Try as you might, it's nigh impossible to find rock musicians more old-school or more sincere than Fred and Toody Cole. The Cole lineage stretches back to the mid-1960s — a lifetime spent ravaging ear canals with garage, psychedelic, and punk bands like the Weeds, Lollipop Shoppe, the Rats, and, most famously, Dead Moon — making these so-called "coolest grandparents in music" one of the longest running and most reliable tickets in the biz. Pierced Arrows, the couple's latest formation, continues the Dead Moon legacy of running lonesome country wails through a deafening wall of hard-rockin' Marshall amplifier buzz. Fred's trademark nasal yelps remain, as always, balanced by Toody's elemental bass thunk; newly recruited drummer Kelly Halliburton rounds out the power trio. You can pay tribute to these underground icons on Friday, Oct. 19, at the Bottom of the Hill, where they headline a bill also featuring Hank IV and Epic Sessions.
