What do we do on Halloween in the post- Castro era? We might start by looking at what the cool kids did in the pre-Castro era, which included heavy doses of scrappy low-budget theatrical camp-fests: Think gay hippie cabaret superstars the Cockettes. The Elastic Future theater company's decadent, loud, possibly audience-fondling production Beautiful is about the right speed. Two years ago, the play had a sold-out run, and now "gets a complete makeover with Romantic poetry, more sex, and a pseudo-couture fashion explosion." Cross-dressing, plenty of fishnet stockings, and something called "fluff seating" mean this show could be germinating the esprit of a new street party.
