Slip of the Tunng

You know that theme music for Grey's Anatomy, that twinky-winky electronic pop with the coy girl vocals? Well, imagine a bunch of Brits off in a forest trying to re-create that song, and you get an idea what Tunng sounds like. On the new Good Arrows, the London-based band — which initially consisted of only Mike Lindsay and Sam Genders, but now features the former drummer for '90s shoegazers Chapterhouse and three other musicians — concocts a pretty, eerie form of electronic pop. Call it "bucolica," the perfect meeting of city and country, full of blippy beats, seesawing cellos, sampled campfires, and murmured, chanting vocals. Neil LaBute should've hired this group to score his remake of The Wicker Man, as the sextet's melding of age-old instruments and modern machines would've been perfect for a tale of mysterious island cults. Not to mention the lyrics about lizard skins, falling skies, and bones spread across the kitchen table. Consider Tunng the perfect post-Halloween thrill.
