Walk on By

This weekend's Green Festival features the usual speaker lineup of book-toting big guns — Fritjof Capra, Deepak Chopra, Paul Hawken, Gary Zukav, yawn — but wait, who's this appearing at 2 p.m. tomorrow? Why, it's John Francis, aka the Planetwalker, who took a vow of silence for 17 years and didn't use motorized vehicles for 22 years. How did he get around? Shit, he's the Planetwalker. He walked across the United States, sailed to the Caribbean, walked across that, and then walked the length of South America, earning college degrees in the process. That's showing them. Appearing Sunday at 1 p.m. is another good man: Eugene Tsui, the organic architect out in Emeryville who's responsible for some of the East Bay's most wonderfully messed-up homes, including the bug-shaped Tsui House and the dragonfly-shaped Reyes House.

The Green Festival features more than 150 speakers and 400 businesses, along with organic food and music.
Nov. 9-11, 2 p.m., 2007
