Nothing says "autumn in San Francisco" like enormous (-ly talented) drag queens and the gargantuan arenas in which they compete for infamy. In other words, it's time for the annual Miss Trannyshack Pageant. Some trannies spend months preparing for this event, striking their backup dancers with riding crops and going over every synthetic fiber in their wigs with a fine-toothed comb. Others plan for about two weeks but still manage to seduce and baffle the audience with glittering displays of plumage and creativity, hoping to knock your socks off, fill them with birdseed, and use them as stuffing for some queen's rack of mammary illusion. The whole event got a bit grander this year, moving to a bigger venue and commanding a list of brassy celebrity judges: comic diva Sandra Bernhard; club kid extraordinaire James St. James; Brent Smith and the Men of Hothouse; Energy 92.7's morning larks Greg and Fernando; and local drag talent Peaches Christ and 2004’s winner Anna Conda. Eight potential Miss Trannyshacks will come to fisticuffs with elaborate performance numbers and a swimsuit competition. Naturally, the proceedings will be hosted by Heklina, Juanita More, and Sister Roma.
