The eight-year-old party "Compression" is almost single-handedly keeping drum 'n' bass alive in the Bay Area. The event is now in the palatial new digs of Temple, where its promoters set up shop every week. An expected highlight of Compression's next installment is the appearance by Danny the Wildchild. He astutely blends drum 'n' bass with hip-hop and other party breaks, and is one of the few jocks to credibly straddle the line between accessible and underground no doubt in part due to his experiences as a weekend mix show host for Chicago radio station Q101. Come watch a DJ who has been spinning since the age of 9 on Thursday, Nov. 29, at Temple at 10 p.m. Admission is $10; call 978-9953 or visit www.templesf.com for more info. Tamara Palmer

Inside every DJ/producer is a windmilling guitarist dying to get out. Rob Garza of Thievery Corporation has found a way to unleash his inner Townshend with his side project, Dust Galaxy. The group features a proliferation of collaborators including Shawn Lee plus members of Primal Scream, Cornershop, and Brazilian Girls. For the live show Garza is manning a guitar and leading a traditional band comprising Jerry Busher of French Toast and Fugazi and Ashish Vyas of GoGoGo Airheart. A little bit India, a little bit psychedelia, and a little bit eclectica, Dust Galaxy's self-titled debut is slightly confused in direction, but its sentiments are pure. And that is what will come through in the group's performance, as well as Garza and Ursula 1000's accompanying DJ sets on Saturday, Dec. 1, at Mighty at 9 p.m. Admission is $22 (limited advance); call 762-0151 or visit www.mighty119.com for more info. — Lily Moayeri
