Maybe you grew up knowing all the words to "El Rey" and "Amorcito Corazón," and request "Sabor a Mi" at every wedding and quinceañera you attend. Perhaps you're the one who closes out late night parties with an a cappella "Volver, Volver," wanting to return, return, return, to your lover's arms once again. Or quite possibly all you know about mariachi music comes from Canciones de Mi Padre, Linda Ronstadt's mid-career turn towards reclaiming her Mexican roots, and you couldn't tell a vihuela from a violin if your life depended on it. Regardless of the reason, you're in luck this month when Natividad "Nati" Cano and his Mariachi Los Camperos (who, incidentally, backed Ronstadt on her Grammy-award winning album) don their charro outfits, tune up their instruments, and take center stage at Fiesta Navidad, a performance celebrating La Posada, a traditional holiday procession marking Mary and Joseph's pilgrimage to Bethlehem and the birth of baby Jesus. Make no mistake -- this isn't the solemn religious celebration or serious night at the symphony you might expect it to be, but a loud, lively, and energetic celebration that's fun and family friendly. And even if you don't know any of the words, you might find yourself singing along -- or throwing a few gritos -- by evening's end.
