Let's Go to the Hip Hop

Just before Oakland's beloved hip-hop duo Blackalicious sets off to tour Australia, members Chief Xcel and Gift of Gab host the Blackalicious Holiday Affair. Their invited guests for this evening of live performances include Alameda's Trackademicks, a producer and remixer who has been snagging international accolades and purveys an original funky hybrid of sounds that he likes to call "WesternSlapademickTenderSmobbinCosmicMusic." Laugh not -- this actually makes sense to a surprising amount of people. He plays with his multifaceted East Bay crew, the Honor Roll (Josie Stingray, Spank Pops, Moxmore, Mike Baker the Bike Maker, DJ Tap.10, 1O.A.K., and T Royal). This is also the first time for many to see the Mighty Underdogs, our version of a local hip-hop supergroup. Comprised of Gab, labelmate Lateef the Truth Speaker and Headnodic (also the DJ from Oakland's Crown City Rockers), the Mighty Underdogs have rhythmic chops and banging beats that seriously deserve wider attention. Find music and warm people guaranteed to jingle your bells.
