All Aces

Although we remember Stussy as only being good for lame surf clothes in the 1980s, here they are years later with slick, boutique-like stores around the world and local art on the walls. Good for Stussy! Tonight, the store on Haight kicks off the exhibit "Kings & Queens: The artwork of Kelly Tunstall & Ferris Plock," in which the magical art duo incorporates the iconography and meaning of playing cards into their work, which makes us hit ourselves over the head and think, so that's what Tunstall's stylized ladies reminds us of -- royalty. Her mysterious, big-eyed, bunny-eared sirens are a nice contrast to Plock's cartoon monsters and otherwise disheveled boys and men. Tunstall and Plock frequently have shows together, and watching the interplay of their art is like seeing a scrappy graffiti kid with a fat slice hanging with an elegant, long-necked, comparative lit grad who orders French food with the correct accent.
