Laugh In

Got a friend who's funnier than B.J. Novak? The Office star is taking the stage tomorrow, but your friend -- or, better yet, you -- can do the same today. Same stage, same venue, same microphone. All you need is a joke. Probably four jokes. They don't even need to be your best jokes. They probably shouldn't be your best jokes because when actors Josh Gomez of Chuck and French Stewart of Third Rock laugh your ass off the stage, you're going to be glad you didn't lay it all out there. But possibly -- and this is hardly worth thinking about -- they might like you enough to invite you back to tonight's Last Comic Standing Live NBC Taping, which you could ace, prompting a series of remarkable incidents in which you suddenly find yourself on national television bringing glory to our city, just like Rob Cantrell did in 2003. (The one-time S.F. resident, you must remember, made it "into the house" only to be bested by that bastard Ralphie May. He now lives in New York).

Open call auditions are free and start at 9 a.m., and when that doesn’t work out for you, find out who, if anyone, is really funny in the Bay Area, and that goes for host Bill Bellamy as well, at the full-audience taping.
Fri., Feb. 29, 8 p.m., 2008
