Wham! Variations

It takes a special kind of pop-cultural devotion to execute a multimedia performance tribute to '80s pop legends Wham! (fittingly titled "Make It Big"), and for this we have a producer and performer by the name of Kentucky Fried Woman to thank. It's no surprise to find the chameleonic supergroup, fronted by young lion cubs George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley, playing the role of muse in 2008. After all, nobody can forget the fingerless yellow gloves and white "Choose Life" t-shirts of "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go," the rebellious, leather jacket-clad choreographed dancing of "Bad Boys," and the unbridled gay hedonism of the anti-employment disco/rap hybrid "Wham! Rap (Enjoy What You Do?)." Espadrilles, torn suede jackets, rolled up denim jeans -- all of these and many other pop cultural details offer a deep well of inspiration to tonight's performers, who include Simone De la Getto, Twilight Vixen Revue, and the brilliantly named CapriSons.
