Iceberger Gallery opened in February, and, as its name punnily implies, it's about the size of a meat locker. Its founders, Erica Freyberger and Ginelle Hustrulid, have been curating art shows online and at temporary spaces for some time now, and they have gimlet eyes for the purposefully casual photograph. The second show in their new space features the work of Nick Meyer, a California College of the Arts MFA-er whose images straddle that delicate balance between family album shots and the perfect moment. A slouched figure at the end of a hallway, a gas can abandoned on a rock, a woman holding a Hula Hoop in front of a plaid couch: these are bits that withhold just enough information to keep you curious. The images are captured at slightly oblique angles that make it seem as though Meyer carries a camera at all times. You get the hedonistic thrill of looking at someone's friend in his underwear, while maintaining a voyeuristic distance. It'll be interesting to see what else Iceberger has beneath its surface.
