Reading a poem at City Hall is usually the dominion of poet laureates and labor organizers from the 1930s. But the city has not given up on the common man's desire to recite verse under a cupola, even if today's common man is largely content to Twitter on his cell phone. To honor the end of National Poetry Month, the organizers of Poems Under the Dome are dragging out a podium, raising a mic, and giving all comers the chance to have their own Robert Frost moment in three minutes or less. You can even read a Robert Frost poem -- original work is welcome but not required. Although Poems Under the Dome picks its readers by lottery on the day of the three-hour event, the Web site stresses that if you show up and enter, you're fairly certain to get picked. The open mic caps a month-long run of poetry readings throughout the city, with many of those contributors expected to attend the finale.
