Kimya DawsonBy Maya KrothPublished on April 22, 2008 at 5:14pmBarbara Walters admittedly doesn't "get" Kimya Dawson, which is quite possibly the best reason to pay 20 bones to see a songwriter who just a few years ago was commanding a fraction as much at a venue less than a quarter the size of the Herbst. But that's what happens when your songs become the soundtrack for the little Oscar-winning teen pregnancy comedy that could. Once known as the 'froiest member of the Moldy Peaches, Olympia-based Dawson has the voice of a prepubescent boy — more Paulie Bleeker than Juno — and writes from the perspective of a fully grown woman who has realized that sometimes a seventh grader's worldview works better than a grown-up's. Heartbreakingly simple, relatable lines like "I don't see what anyone can see/in anyone else but you" can't help but strike a chord in the heart of most sensate people. Well, except Barbara Walters. Kimya Dawson performs on Friday, April 25, at the Herbst Theatre at 8 p.m. Admission is $20; call 392-4400 or visit www.apeconcerts.com for info.
